After March 30th, I am officially removing all of my titles from the Kindle Unlimited (KU) program. This is part of a larger, long-term decision to "go wide," making my books available on all digital platforms like Kobo, Nook, Apple Books, Google Play, and beyond.

I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has read and supported me through KU over the years. It's been a wonderful platform, but for this next phase of my career, I'm excited to reach readers who prefer other devices and storefronts.

What This Means for You (And How to Get Your Last-Minute Reads!)

While I'm excited for the future, I know many of you are avid KU subscribers, and I don't want you to miss out.

If you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, this weekend is your last chance to read my books for "free" as part of your subscription.

New Cover, Same Heart: Why I Revamped 'Behind The Stars'

They say don’t judge a book by its cover... but we all do. And that’s a good thing! A great cover isn't just a pretty picture; it’s a promise to the reader. It tells you exactly what kind of ride you're about to get on.

Recently, I looked at the original cover for Behind The Stars and I realised something: it wasn't keeping its promise. While my other works embrace the heartfelt and the emotional (the 'Queen of Tears' brand is real, folks!), this particular story has a much darker, sharper edge.

It was time for a change. Because sometimes, a change is good. And this story deserved a cover that looked as thrilling as it felt to write.

Why the original wasn't working

The original Behind The Stars cover was lovely. It had a certain mystery to it, with the detailed eye and the star pupil. But for a psychological thriller, it felt a little too... serene. It whispered when it should have shouted, "Watch your back!" It was attracting readers who wanted a soft mystery, and then hitting them with some very dark, tense plot points. I knew I needed to pivot.

The Transformation

If you want to catch a thriller reader’s eye, you have to speak their language.

Thriller covers are about tension, contrast, and high stakes. So, the first thing to go was the flat background. I wanted something that felt more textured and urgent.

We kept the central eye, the 'Behind The Stars' motif is crucial, but it needed a complete overhaul. We sharpened the details, deepened the colours (the green pupil and the star inside are more defined), and leaned into that central star-mask effect.

But the biggest change? The text. The font is what truly elevates it. We moved from the fancy script text to this new, bold style for the title and author name. The heavy, dark lettering immediately signals to the reader, "This is not a cosy mystery." It adds a layer of sophistication and grit that the previous version lacked. It feels definitive and serious.

My Author Pivot: Empathy to Dread

This wasn't just a visual revamp; it was an acknowledgment of my writing journey. I love exploring complex emotions and characters (the 'tears' aren't going anywhere!). But Behind The Stars showed me I also love exploring the dark side of that emotional depth. It's about paranoia, trust, and secrets. It’s about people who are so complex, you can’t tell if they are the hero or the villain.

I want my existing readers to trust that the emotional depth is still there. But I also want new thriller readers to see this cover and know they are getting a dark, psychological story.

So yes, the change is good. It's a sign of growth and a commitment to reaching the right readers. I’m now officially the 'Queen of Tears & Thrills' (patent pending!), and I can’t wait for you all to see what’s Behind The Stars.

Why I'm Still Looking for "Nelly the Horse"

We’ve all been there. You put your heart and soul into creating something, you launch it into the world, and then... you wait. You wait for the reviews, the feedback, the moment of connection.

Well, for my latest book, Quiet Whispers, that connection arrived in a rather unexpected form.

It seems a reader was looking for something that I, quite simply, didn’t deliver. And no, it wasn't a plot twist or character development issue. It was… a missing horse.

Yes, you read that right. A horse named Nelly.

A recent free download review for Quiet Whispers left me genuinely bewildered. It seems the reader was absolutely convinced that my story featured a magnificent equine companion named Nelly. They were quite looking forward to Nelly’s adventures.

The problem? Quiet Whispers is a contemporary romance. It’s set in the city, it explores the intricate dance of emotional vulnerability and finding connections, and its protagonist is definitely not riding any horses or a child!.

I checked my manuscript. Three times. I even asked the neighbours dog if she had any secret equestrian friends I was unaware of. Nothing. No horses. Definitely no Nelly.

This entire surreal experience got me thinking about the nature of book reviews. We strive to create consistent worlds, characters, and plot lines, but reader expectation can be a funny beast (pun unintended). Sometimes, people bring their own desires, pre-conceived notions, or maybe just their last book hangover into a new read, resulting in reviews that are utterly irrelevant to the actual work.

This specific review confusion feels like ordering a gourmet steak dinner and then leaving a 1-star review because the sourdough instructions for the side order were insufficient.

Or, maybe even more accurately, it’s like giving Fifty Shades of Grey a 1-star review because the cooking recipes were not to your taste.

I can just imagine E.L. James (the author of Fifty Shades, who I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with online) reading a review like that and shaking her head. It’s absurd, it’s frustrating, but it’s also undeniably funny.

This absurdity was too good to keep to myself. I decided to turn the confusing review into a positive moment. I created a slightly ridiculous image (complete with a "Nelly" the horse, an actual name tag, and my e-book cover) and shared it on social media.

My caption? "STILL SEARCHING FOR THE HORSE!"

I even tagged E.L.James herself, posing the question: "Has this ever happened to you?🐎🔍"

Why This Strategy Works

My goal wasn't just to vent. It was to use this moment of review madness to:

Emphasise Authenticity: It shows that authors struggle with weird feedback too. We’re not invincible robots.
Connect with Peers: Tagging another author, even a global bestseller, in a shared moment of hilarity creates a human connection.
Drive Engagement: Funny content gets likes, comments, and shares. This helps amplify my reach and get Quiet Whispers in front of more potential readers.
Remind People it was Free (and Horse-Free): The funniest part is that the book was actually free! I used the post as a playful way to let people know that if they’re looking for a contemporary romance without any secret equestrian subplots, they can grab Quiet Whispers and help with the search.

Learning to Laugh

The life of an author can sometimes feel isolating. We spend months or years deep in our stories, and the external world’s reception can feel unpredictable.

But sometimes, the unpredictability is just hilarious. Nelly the Horse will likely never make an appearance in my stories (though who knows, maybe she needs her own spin-off!), but she has given me a memory, a fun marketing moment, and a reminder that even when things get weird, we can always find the humour.

Since the middle of February, we have seen a whirlwind of activity:

The Big Peak: On February 22nd alone, we saw nearly 300 downloads in 24 hours!

Back in December, a local reader reached out to order 11 copies of 'Behind The Stars' for her book club’s January pick. I was absolutely thrilled, and when she invited me to join their discussion in person, I jumped at the chance!

On Monday night, with my daughter behind the lens as my official photographer, we headed to Zafferano Lounge. Local Connections: ‘Behind the Stars’ Heads to Book Club!

There is no greater honour for a writer than knowing their words are being shared, debated, and dissected over cups of coffee and shared plates of snacks. This month, my heart is feeling especially full: a local book group has officially selected "Behind the Stars" for their January read!

The group has picked up 11 copies of the book, and I’ve been told they are already diving into the chapters. As an author, you often spend years alone with your characters, wondering if their journeys will resonate with anyone else. Seeing a stack of your books ready for a group discussion is a powerful reminder of why we tell stories in the first place... to connect.

Saving a Seat at the Table

The best part of this news? I won’t just be hearing about the discussion second-hand. I have been invited to join the group in early February for a live Q&A session!

I am incredibly excited (and, admittedly, a little nervous) to sit down with these readers. There is a certain vulnerability in meeting a book club; they’ve spent a month living in the world you built, and they often notice details or ask questions that catch even the author off guard. I’m looking forward to hearing which characters they loved, which plot twists made them gasp, and perhaps even answering a few "why did you do that?" questions about the ending.

For some of you, our journey together began with Country Hearts. Watching you fall in love with the rolling hills, the quaint Tennessee life, and the complicated, beautiful hearts of its characters has been a highlight of my career. Your reviews, your messages, and your shared photos of the book in the wild have fuelled my creativity through the long winter nights.

I’ve realised that while Country Hearts was a destination for many, for me, it was just the beginning. It taught me so much about the bonds we share, whether they are the "gold dust" friendships in Behind The Stars or the deep, emotional family ties we explored in Quiet Whispers.

Boxes, Baubles, and Burnout: The Reality of a Festive Move

There is a specific kind of madness reserved for those of us who decide to move house during the festive period. In theory, it sounds like a Hallmark movie: "New Year, New Home!" You imagine yourself sipping cocoa by a roaring fire in your new living room while snow falls gently outside.

In reality? You are standing in a kitchen full of brown cardboard boxes, realise you’ve packed the kettle in a box labeled "Miscellaneous — Study," and you’re currently using a roll of festive glitter tape to seal a box of heavy boots because you ran out of the industrial stuff three hours ago.

To put it bluntly: I am absolutely shattered.

The "Shattered" Scale

If you’ve never moved in December, imagine the physical toll of a marathon combined with the mental load of hosting Christmas dinner, all while living in a temporary state of "where is my toothbrush?"

The exhaustion of a festive move is unique because:

The Days are Short: You’re losing light by 4:00 PM, making every trip to the moving van feel like a midnight covert operation.
The "Double Decorating": You have to decide whether to unpack the essentials (plates, underwear, towels) or the Christmas tree. (Spoiler: The tree usually wins, even if it’s just sitting in a corner with one string of lights draped over it for morale).
The Bone-Deep Tiredness: It’s that specific fatigue where your knees ache, your brain is "mush," and the thought of cooking a meal feels like a Herculean task.

Finding the Magic in the Mess

Despite the exhaustion and the fact that I’m currently 90% caffeine and 10% bubble wrap, there is something quietly beautiful about a new beginning at this time of year. Last night, amidst the chaos, I found a small candle, lit it, and sat on a packing box. For five minutes, the house was quiet. No tape-tearing, no heavy lifting; just the realisation that this new space is finally ours.

We often feel we have to be "on" during the holidays; performing, hosting, and keeping every tradition alive. But if you’re moving, or just feeling overwhelmed, I’m here to give you permission to be tired. It’s okay to have a "minimalist" Christmas (read: dinner on paper plates) if it means protecting your peace.
