📜 Behind the Dashboard: Why It’s Time to Value the Story

There is a fascinating, unwritten contract that exists between an author and a reader during a book launch.

In the indie and hybrid publishing world, we have a time-tested tradition: the introductory 99p launch price. It is a celebratory high-five, a thank-you note, and an open invitation all rolled into one. For the first month of After Light, I kept that digital door wide open. I wanted to make sure my fierce, loyal "Rosettes", the readers who have cheered me on across ten full-length novels, could dive into Maya and Max’s story the very second it went live without a second thought.

And you lot absolutely blew me away. The downloads flooded in, the Kindle trackers started climbing, and the early reviews began to light up my inbox.

But as the initial launch dust begins to settle, a different phase of the author-entrepreneur journey begins. This week, After Light is officially moving from its celebratory 99p introductory price to its permanent home at £2.99 on Kindle (with the physical paperback standing tall at a standard high-street retail price of £9.99).

I wanted to pull back the curtain and talk about why this shift happens, because it goes right to the heart of how we value creative work.

The Reality of the 99p Lens

When a book is priced at 99p, it’s easy to view it as a casual, disposable purchase. It’s cheaper than a high-street takeaway coffee. But behind that 99p file is a decade of honed craft, hundreds of hours of intense emotional labour, structural editing, cover design, and a piece of an author's soul.

As I look at After Light sitting on my shelf, my tenth milestone novel, I realise that treating it as a permanent "budget" item doesn't just impact my business; it shifts the value perception of the story itself.

THE ANATOMY OF A MANUSCRIPT

• 10 Years of Professional Writing Discipline

• Lived Experience, Personal Grief & Heartbreak

• Rigorous Formatting & Market-Ready Production

• Over 3,500 Backlist Copies Sold Independently

Moving the Kindle edition to £2.99 positions the book exactly where it belongs: alongside the commercial, heavy-hitting contemporary fiction titles found on the tables of independent bookstores. It signals to new readers entering our community that this is a premium, deeply polished, and emotionally heavyweight reading experience.

Building the Future

For those who know my current goals, I am actively exploring traditional publishing partnerships and bring stories like After Light to an even wider global audience.

In the publishing industry, data speaks volumes. When traditional editors look at an author's footprint, they don’t just want to see high download numbers; they want to see an audience that genuinely values the author's voice enough to invest in it at a standard retail price point. By establishing a healthy, sustainable pricing model across digital and print, I am protecting the integrity of the T.A. Rosewood brand and setting the stage for the next ambitious chapter of my career.

To every single Rosette who grabbed a copy at 99p... thank you for giving this book such a beautiful, roaring head start. And to everyone picking up a copy today at its true retail value, thank you for investing in independent storytelling, for honouring the years it takes to build a ten-book legacy, and for helping me keep the lights on in my writing sanctuary.

The launch phase is officially complete. Maya and Max are out in the world, the metadata is locked, and we are ready for whatever comes next.

With all my love,
