📚 A Ten-Year Circle: Why a Literary Icon Reminded Me of the True Meaning of "Launch Day"

If you had told me ten years ago... when I was standing in my local independent bookshop holding my very first notebook of ideas, that I would one day stand in that exact same shop celebrating the release of my tenth novel, I would have been emotional enough.

But if you had told me that a global literary icon would be sitting in the corner, look up, and say, "Oh, it’s Tara!"... I probably would have laughed and told you it sounded like a plot twist from one of my own books.

Yesterday was the official launch day for my new novel, After Light. To be completely transparent with you all, the day started quietly. In the modern world of publishing, online launch days can often feel a bit like an anti-climax. You spend months pouring your soul into characters like Maya and Max, and then the day arrives with a quiet digital whisper of download charts and statistics. It’s a moment where it is very easy for an author to feel incredibly small.

But tonight, I put on my custom author t-shirt, packed a stack of After Light bookmarks, and headed out to celebrate a very special milestone: the 10th birthday of the independent bookshop where my writing journey originally began.

And that is where the universe decided to step in.

Sitting right there in the corner was none other than Jojo Moyes.

For those of you who know my debut novel, Reasonable Lies, you know that Jojo’s incredible storytelling was the exact spark that inspired me to put pen to paper a decade ago. To see her standing in the very room where my career was born was a full-circle moment in itself. But the absolute magic happened when she recognised me.

We had a wonderful little chat about my work, and she was genuinely surprised and excited to hear that I have published ten novels in ten years. To receive that kind of validation from a writer who has shaped the landscape of modern emotional fiction is a feeling I will carry with me for a very long time. Before the night ended, I was able to hand her a copy of Reasonable Lies; the ultimate thank you to the woman who unknowingly started it all.

She smiled, looked genuinely pleased, and promised she would definitely try to read it as soon as she could.

Tonight reminded me that while internet algorithms are cold, the real, breathing world of book lovers and authors has a massive, beating heart. It reminded me that success isn't always measured in digital metrics on day one; it’s measured in the stamina of a ten-year legacy, the discipline of ten completed books, and the quiet, profound moments of human connection.

After Light is officially out in the wild now. It is a story about a photographer learning to step out from behind the lens and live with radical presence in the moment. Tonight, I think I finally learned how to do that myself.

Thank you to everyone who has ordered their copy, to the wonderful bookshop that gave me my start, and to Jojo Moyes for reminding a prolific indie author that our stories matter.

If you haven’t grabbed your copy of After Light yet, it is available right now on Amazon [https://mybook.to/afterlight]. Let's step into the light together.

With love and immense gratitude,

T.A. Rosewood (Tara, aka Traci. lol)
